Searchfest 2009 Interview: Neil Patel

February 5th, 2009 by Todd Mintz

Neil will be speaking about “Social Media” at Searchfest 2009 which will be held March 10th in Portland, Oregon. Get your tickets now.

1) Please give me your background and tell us what you do for a living.
I am a 23 year old kid who has been doing SEO for 6 or 7 years. Right now I spend most of my time on the two software companies I own:
Crazy Egg (www.crazyegg.com) and KISSmetrics (www.kissmetrics.com). Other than that, I spend my time blogging at Quick Sprout (www.quicksprout.com).

2) What are 3 up and coming social media networks that we might not know too much about but perhaps we should pay attention to?
I personally don’t think there are 3 upcoming social sites that people don’t know too much about. None-the-less, the 3 that come to my mind are Friend Feed, Tumblr, and Scribd. Most of these sites aren’t social in the ways like Digg or StumbleUpon maybe, but they are social sites.

3) On Twitter, how can you “be social with a business purpose”?
If you connect with people in the press or other working people, it can be leveraged very effectively for business. You can tweet about what you do or things that people should know about. If they are related to what you do, you maybe featured in a newspaper or get a customer out of Twitter.
