Can someone recommend good books to read on online marketing in general and SEO specifically please. Are there good blogs out there that I should focus on?

Start with the blogs in the right sidebar of this one.

As far as online marketing books, I'd read Purple Cow by Seth Godin. Don't say that's not "online marketing" after you're read it, because it's principles like those are what it will take in the future.

Kris Jones book on Search Engine Optimization is pretty comprehensive.
