Chris Silver Smith

Chris Silver Smith is Director of Optimization Strategy for KeyRelevance, a boutique search marketing agency.

Chris is particularly experienced in search engine optimization, local search, mapping, internet technology, image search, shopping search optimization, social media optimization, and more. He has done research and development on search optimization for over a decade, and provided expert search marketing consulting for Internet Retailer 500 companies as well as Fortune 500 corporations. Just prior to working with KeyRelevance, Chris served as Lead Search Strategist for Netconcepts (now acquired by Covario), working upon support and development of the GravityStream software solution product – a “near turn-key SEO application” which helps businesses with non-optimal, dynamic sites become optimized nearly overnight.

Chris was previously Head of Technology & Advanced Development for Verizon Superpages.com where he worked for over a decade. He oversaw teams working on Taxonomy, Data Quality, Map Development, Cobranding, UI Design, and Analytics. His projects there included research and development, local search technology advancement, and design of numerous applications and interfaces including Map-Based Search, Campus Area Yellow Pages, weather forecasting systems, E-Cards, XML APIs, RSS feeds, Wireless applications, and more. While at Verizon, Chris initiated research into maximizing referral traffic from search engines as far back as 1997, and this work eventually formed the foundation for the Superpages sites’ extensive and sophisticated SEO projects. Chris was awarded several individual and team awards for increasing traffic for the company through this work, including the prestigious Verizon Individual Excellence Award.

Chris has five patents pending for local search and display technology, and he frequently speaks at search marketing conferences and contributes to Search Engine Land’s Locals Only column.
