Don’t Use A Sex Offender Alert As A Sales Technique

There’s a special place in hell for the marketer who created and sent me the following email:

From: V2020 [info@v2020.net]

Subject: Todd Mintz, you have 1 new Offender Locator alert

Hello Todd Mintz,

A new alert is available from V 20/20′s Facebook Offender Locator Application.

Click the link below to view this alert.

Feel free to click the link and let me know if I’m being a little harsh on these folks.

Yeah, I vaguely remember opting into this application and probably consented to receiving email from them. However, I will correct that error shortly.

  1. Wow…that is pretty screwed up. That is actually a good idea as a community service…to bad it was bogus.

  2. I noticed the Offender Locator app the other day, by all means I am NOT defending the sex offenders. With that said, many of these sex offenders are/were 18 year old boys that had sex with a 17 or 16 year old girlfriends, then her parents found out and didn’t approve, regardless that it was consensual.

Maybe it’s ok to have a website that people can look up offenders, but all marketing of such should be illegal.
