Donate Life Northwest and our 300+ volunteers sincerely thank SEMpdx for their very generous donation to our annual Lifesaver’s Breakfast fund-raising event Thursday, Oct. 23rd. It has been a privilege for Donate Life Northwest to be honored as the Charity of Choice for your organization and we deeply appreciate your support throughout 2008.

As a liver transplant recipient and a member of the Donate Life Northwest board of directors, I am fortunate to witness the amazing impact such financial donations have upon directly influencing more individuals to sign up to be organ, eye and tissue donors. Your generous gift comes to DLNW at a very opportune time.

The donor code on a driver’s license or permit now serves as first person consent. This means the organ, eye and tissue recovery agencies are honoring the decision of an individual to be a donor by acting on the donor code on a driver’s license or permit, following the revised Uniform Anatomical Gift Act legislation and fulfilling the general public’s expectations.

Also, for the first time, 15, 16 and 17 year old Oregonians can indicate their decision to be an organ donor with a “D” on their driver’s license or permit. However, should they become a potential donor before age 18, their next-of-kin is required to give consent for donation to occur.

These changes present a whole new realm of opportunities for our organization to increase the number of people signed up on the donor registry through our ongoing partnership with DMV. We are working hard to insure our outreach, marketing and education programs are efficient and cost effective, measures due in part to our ability to access improved demographic data and conduct focused marketing and educational campaigns.

It is very exciting for Donate Life Northwest to know your generous contributions are leveraged in the most powerful way possible to advance our critical, lifesaving mission.

Again, thank you very much. Please remind the wonderful members of your organization to sign up today to be donors on-line at www.donatelifenw.org and/or with a donor code on their driver’s license. Everyone should know 1 donor can save the lives of up to 8 individuals through organ donation and enhance the lives of more than 50 others through eye and tissue donation. Donation does not cost anything.

You have the power to be an everyday hero who can save and enhance lives. Take action.
