1) Please give us your background and tell us what you do for a living.

I’ve been doing organic SEO since the mid 1990s, when SEO wasn’t known as SEO. I was using search engines to drive traffic to websites, by getting them to rank well. I did a lot of affiliate sites, created them from scratch using Notepad and then MS FrontPage and then finally on to WordPress back in the mid 2000s. I’ve been an in-house SEO for a large telecom company, and then move to doing SEO for clients around 2004 or so.

2) How has technical SEO evolved in the last 5 years?

Technical SEO has evolved over the years because we now have tools such as crawlers and other tools that allows us to analyze a website more in-depth. We used to have to do a lot of the work manually, or export URLs and then put them into a spreadsheet. We can run reports using various tools, but it’s the experienced SEO who really knows what to look for.

3) What 3 SEO Tools do you find indispensable and why?

Google Webmaster Tools is helpful to some extent, but also Majestic.com, and Screaming Frog SEO Spider. There are a few other tools I use daily, but I’ll keep those in my own arsenal of SEO tools that I use to complete highly complex SEO Audits.
