January 2013 – Internet Marketing 101

After wrapping up 2012 with a couple of pretty technical sessions, it’s time to revisit one of our most popular sessions – a return to basics – Internet Marketing 101, revised for 2013.

Our speakers will be covering three topics: Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Social & Content Marketing, and Paid Search (PPC).

You can expect to walk away with the current best practices for each – and perhaps you will be convinced to try a new channel or fresh approach in the new year.

When:
Tuesday, January 8th, 2013 – 5 pm to 7 pm

Location:
AboutUs – 107 SE Washington Street, Suite 520 – Portland, OR 97214

The presenters:

John McPheeSEO Fundamentals
John McPhee | Formic
McPhee, originally from the Midwest, decided to venture West in 2003 to kick start his career in Internet Marketing. Upon arriving, McPhee was employed by BetterManagement.com (BMC), a SAS-owned company, to take on the role of Internet Marketing Specialist where he handled all aspects of BMC’s SEO and PPC strategies.

After a two year stint at BMC, McPhee moved into the agency world at Anvil Media in 2005. Here McPhee provided SEO, PPC and social media strategy working on a number of travel/tourism (Provenance Hotel Group, Travel Portland, Jackson Hole Central Reservations, Travel Oregon), B2B-focused (Axway, ColumbiaSoft) and B2C clients (gDiapers), earning multiple social media marketing (SoMe) awards for strategy and performance in 2008 and 2009.

McPhee has also presented at various SEMpdx and PSU events, and volunteered to work with the PSU multimedia class on a project for Portland Center Stage, as well as donated his time to the SMART reading program for the past four years. Looking for the next step in his career, McPhee joined Formic Media (Anvil’s sister company) as Director of Client Services in 2010, and has since been promoted to Vice President.

Social & Content
Aliza EarnshawAliza Earnshaw | AboutUs
Aliza joined AboutUs in early 2009, after reporting on technology, finance and higher education for the Portland Business Journal for 10 years. Her deep interest in business, coupled with her ability to find the story line in almost any situation, led her naturally from journalism into marketing. In the age of “content is king, and social media is queen,” the story has become the jewel in the crown: the shining centerpiece of all marketing activity.

Aliza’s familiarity with the Portland business landscape and her endless curiosity about people and their work make her a natural networker. When she’s not standing in front of her computer monitor or chatting in a coffee shop, Aliza is usually outdoors – hiking, gardening or riding her bike around Southeast Portland.

Ryan’s search engine marketing (SEM) career began in Hood River where he worked as in-house e-Commerce manager for an online retailer where he was responsible for paid search, affiliate marketing, and email marketing.

Ryan’s aptitude for pay-per-click (PPC) advertising helped him grow the company’s search marketing revenue increases by 35%.  Ryan then moved on to another in-house role at a software company based in Eugene where he used his skills in PPC, SEO & affiliate marketing to drive double-digit increases in online sales.

Ryan now brings that diverse online marketing background and expertise in search engine marketing to Amplify Interactive.
