April 2014 – SEO 101

SEO 101 - April 2014The April 2014 meeting of SEMpdx is going back to basics, and we have a great panel of search marketing professionals to cover SEO 101 and answer any and all questions. As usual, we are having the event on the second Tuesday of the month, with a half hour of networking, then an hour long presentation with Q&A, then another half hour of networking.

Following a formal SEO 101 presentation and after the panelists share their top SEO tips for 2014, we’ll also be doing a live site clinic! Attendees are invited to submit their sites (1 site per attendee) and we’ll be selecting 3 sites for the experts to review during the session! Only registered attendees are eligible to submit a site, so please email events@sempdx.org after you register and we’ll take your site under consideration. We won’t be able to review everyone’s but we’ll do our best to pick a nice representative example of website types.

Nov 2013 – SERP Analytics with Rob Bucci

Crush the Competition by Watching the SERPs

Crush the Competition with SERP AnalyticsSome marketers can get great results by going with their gut. However, as search marketers, we’re pretty data driven. We don’t just take shots in the dark and hope for the best. We research and strategize and execute and then quantify our results. That’s why SEMpdx is extremely excited to bring you a speaker who will lay out a whole new way to use research and data to help us do what we do better.

For our November event, Rob Bucci from STAT Search Analytics will show us what we can learn about our competition and our own performance by taking a ‘big-data’ approach to SERP analysis. In “SERP Analytics: How to Crush the Competition by Watching the SERPs“, Rob will talk about segmenting search queries into granular sets, deriving useful signals from analyzing the SERPs for our keywords, and then leveraging that information to dominate our competition.

Aug 28th – Documentary Film – “Connected”

Join co-hosts PRSA Portland Metro Chapter and SEMpdx to watch “Connected,” a funny, eye-opening, and inspiring film by Director Tiffany Shlain.

Honored by Newsweek as one of the “Women Shaping the 21st Century,” Tiffany Shlain is a filmmaker, writer, founder of the Webby Awards, and co-founder of The International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences.

We’ll explore what it means to be connected in today’s tech-centric age – personally and professionally – through the film, along with discussion and networking afterwards.

  • Wed., Aug. 28, 2013
  • 7 p.m.
  • Hotel deLuxe - Portland, OR (popcorn will be provided, no host bar)
  • $5 at the door (if you previously signed up through Tugg, bring your ticket for free entry)

About the Film:
Have you ever faked a restroom trip to check your email? Slept with your laptop? Or become so overwhelmed that you just unplugged from it all?

In this funny, eye-opening, and inspiring film, Director Tiffany Shlain takes audiences on an exhilarating rollercoaster ride to discover what it means to be connected in the 21st century.

From founding The Webby Awards to being a passionate advocate for The National Day of Unplugging, Her love/hate relationship with technology serves as the springboard for a thrilling exploration of modern life…and our interconnected future.

Equal parts documentary and memoir, the film unfolds during a year in which technology and science literally become a matter of life and death for the director.

As Shlain’s father battles brain cancer and she confronts a high-risk pregnancy, her very understanding of connection is challenged. Using a brilliant mix of animation, archival footage, and home movies, Shlain reveals the surprising ties that link us not only to the people we love but also to the world at large.

A personal film with universal relevance, Connected explores how, after centuries of declaring our independence, it may be time for us to declare our interdependence instead.
